We’re in Glenfeshie at the southern end of the Cairngorms National Park. Our nearest village is Kincraig (3 miles).
In short, yes. Or, at the very least, a bike. There are bus connections from Kincraig (3 miles away) and railway stations in Kingussie in Aviemore (8 miles away), but there is no getting away from the fact that we are quite isolated.
Only very, very rarely! Ballintean is accessed via a 250-metre forestry track, which is suitable for all cars. After heavy snowfall however, we recommend cars are not taken past the obvious parking area on the access track, leaving a 100m walk to each property.
What time is check-in and check out?
Access is from 4pm on arrival day and we would ask you to vacate the property by 10am on departure day.
What do I need to bring with me?
Bed linen, towels and handwash are provided for both properties. If you’re staying at the Cottage, we supply kitchen linen, washing up supplies and logs for the open fire. You’ll need your own food of course, although we supply tea, coffee and sugar. If you’re part of a group at the Lodge, you’ll be fully catered for so just bring yourself.
Please be aware that the weather here can be extremely fickle so make sure you have the right clothing, including footwear.
Yes, in Ballintean Cottage. Up to 2 dogs are welcome but please keep them off the furniture and out of the bedrooms. We charge an extra £25 per pet.
What if I need help during my stay?
Ballintean Mountain Lodge and Ballintean Cottage both enjoy a private setting but Amanda, the owner, lives nearby and is available to help and advise when required.
Do you charge a security deposit?
No, and we accept that sometimes accidents happen. We do however, reserve the right to charge for excess cleaning and/or significant damages caused by recklessness.
Are there any additional costs?
If you’re staying at the Cottage, we include the first £20 of electricity in your rental but charge any balance at standard rates from a reading on the meter.
Sorry but deposits are non-refundable. We therefore recommend you take out suitable travel/holiday insurance cover.
Kingussie and Aviemore are both roughly 8 miles away (20 minute drive) and provide a wide range of shops and facilities.
Where is the nearest pub and café?
There is a nice homely pub in Kincraig, a 5-10 minute drive. There is also a small gallery café in the village and a wider range of eating places in Kingussie and Aviemore.
How should we leave the property?
If you’re staying at the Cottage, we would ask you to tidy up and do your washing up. There is no need to strip the beds, but we would ask pet owners to remove all hair and ensure you’ve picked up after your pet in the garden. We'd like you to take your bins out and recycle where you can. Details of what can be recycled and where bins are located can be found inside the Cottage.
